Dr. Sowell is a native of Atlanta Georgia. His undergraduate work in chemistry and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree were completed at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. He fulfilled his General Practice Residency at Louisiana State University Medical Center, New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Sowell completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina in 1978 serving as Chief Resident from January 1, 1978 to December 31, 1978. He was board certified by the National Board of Dental Examiners in 1974 and by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1982. Dr. Sowell presently serves as Assistant Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Medical College of Georgia Hospitals and Clinics, Augusta, Georgia. He currently serves as team physician to the Greenville Growl professional hockey team in Greenville, South Carolina .Dr. Sowell has been in private practice in Greenwood, South Carolina since 1980 and limits his practice exclusively to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Holzhauer is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She completed a two year General Practice Residency at the VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and maintained part-time private practice concurrently. After electing to specialize in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Holzhauer finished a four year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. She has been in private practice specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Greenwood since completing her residency, and was board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1999. Dr. Holzhauer presently maintains private practice in Greenwood, SC with active hospital privledges at Self Regional Hospital, and serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, School of Dentistry, Medical College of Georgia Hospitals and Clinics in Augusta, Georgia. She is a current member of the local and state of SC dental societies, and completed the recertification examination in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to maintain Diplomate status.
